Year 6 debating competitors argue their way to victory! 8 March 2017 (by adminuser) |
The three-strong team of debaters took part in the RNLC English Network Debating Competition at Redbridge Drama Centre last Wednesday, along with nine other primary schools from around the borough.
They were proposing the motion that recycling should be compulsory. During their debate, which was being opposed by St Aiden's Primary School, they argued their points with eloquence, conviction and a range of well-informed facts. The motion was passed with a resounding victory.
During the day, they also got the opportunity to listen to debates from other schools on a range of interesting topics such as: 'Money doesn't buy you happiness', 'the internet has caused more harm than good', 'celebrities are positive role models' and 'sugar should be banned'. They also learnt about the structure of debates and the role of the time keeper and chair person.
Although they did not win the competition overall, they performed amazingly and proved to be fantastic ambassadors for SSPP.
