Music
Music has the power to transform lives and all children have the right to access consistent, high quality, and meaningful musical learning experiences. At SSPP, the aim is to develop each child’s musical potential by giving opportunities for self-expression and creativity.
In the EYFS children are encouraged to sing, dance and explore music in a variety of ways. Year group singing takes place once a week, where the children gain the ability to build a repertoire of songs, which are age-appropriate. The children in EYFS also have the opportunity to perform a Nativity to their Parents and Carers as part of our Christmas celebration.
In KS2, children take part in whole class lessons lead by specialist peripatetic music teachers from Redbridge Music service. These include Ukulele, Violin and African Drumming. We have a well-established choir who take part in various concerts and events throughout the year. The choir rehearse weekly after school and sing a wide range of music in 2-part harmony. They also attend and perform at the biennial Redbridge Music Festival held at the Royal Albert Hall. Singing is a part of our school ethos from Nursery through to year 6, with an ever-ranging repertoire.
